Mission
Our Mission
is to provide measuring and testing services that build confidence
in trade and promote international competitiveness of Jamaican industries
by employing appropriate technology, continuously improving our capabilities,
retaining a highly trained and professional cadre of personnel and
by being proactive and responsive to customer needs.
Departments
The Metrology and Testing Division consists of four departments: Mechanical
Engineering, Electrical/Electronics, Analytical Services and Building
& Non-Metallic Materials. Together
the departments have over 21 laboratories dedicated to metrology and
testing. These labs are equipped with metrology and testing equipment
having very high recognition and rating by established international
labs such as PTB (Germany), NIST, (USA) and CENAM (Mexico)
Staffing
The
unique capability of our facility is matched only by the depth of
experience and qualification of its professional staff. The combined
experience of our senior engineering metrology and testing staff
exceeds one hundred (100) years. All our metrology engineers and
technicians have been exposed to training at the highest level internationally
at institutions such as the PTB (Germany), NIST (USA) and (CENAM)
Mexico.
Our
participation in on
going international measurement programmes ensures that our staff
is kept up-to-date in training and available techniques.
Calibration
Services
The
calibration services of the Bureau of Standards are designed to
help users of measuring instrumentsand standards to achieve the
highest possible levels of measurement quality and to conform to
quality system requirements.
The Bureau,
through its state-of-the-art calibration equipment, stable laboratory
environment and well trained staff, is able to offer a wide range
of calibration services with international traceability and extremely
high levels of accuracy. |

Testing Services
The Metrology and Testing Division offers testing services covering
a wide range of electrical, mechanical, chemical and microbiological
commodities to meet the requirements of national and international
standards. The Electrical Department is authorized to carry out testing
on behalf of the Underwriters Laboratory (UL). |
|
This
is an indication of the reputation and confidence in our ability
to provide consistent and reliable results from our testing.

Certification Mark Programme
This
is a specially designed programme aimed at improving product quality
and marketability. Under this programme the departments assist
manufacturers to obtain the National Certification Mark,
signifying products of consistently good quality. For more information
on certification please contact the Certification Department.
